A quiet charming hotel in a nice neighbourhood

We have stayed at Aldrovandi Residence in the winter for the past three years and have enjoyed it very much. The hotel is in a quiet location in an affluent neighbourhood with many beautiful palazzos and several embassies. The tram (currently replaced by a bus) is outside the entrance of the hotel and connects with the metro (Policlinico). Alternatively one can take the #910 bus (5-10 minutes walk) to Termini or the #160 bus (10 minutes away) to Via del Corso. The #19 bus/tram goes to the Vatican. Walking to the city centre (Piazza Venezia) takes about 45 minutes but the Spanish Steps are only 20 minutes away. The Villa Borghese park is huge but charming and a lovely place to walk or jog. The closest supermarket is Carrefour, about 10-15 minutes by foot. For heavy groceries, taking the bus/tram (every 5-10 minutes) to Tigre on Via Liegi might be more practical. The suites have large rooms and a small but perfectly adequate kitchen. The plumbing is fine, but don’t expect a modern high pressure shower. The TVs are small by North American standards and CNN is not available but Sky does show English language movies and I was able to watch all the 6 Nations rugby games on Sky Uno and Sky Arena (Italian commentary). The rooms are kept meticulously clean by the friendly staff. The concierges all speak good English and are very helpful. The rooms at the front of the hotel look out onto the zoo and those at the back have a view of the swimming pool and the lovely neighborhood. For those who like to keep the windows open in the winter, the traffic on Via Aldrovandi can be a bit noisy (especially when the trams are running), but overall the hotel is quiet. The breakfast is better than in most hotels. As well as the usual ham, salami and cheeses, scrambled eggs, fried pancetta and cooked vegetables are offered plus yoghurt and fruit and croissants. The toaster is very slow and needs to be upgraded. The breakfast room in the lower level is very pleasant. Overall, we have been very happy with the hotel. It is old (it used to be a convent, and then a girls school), but clean, and charming. We certainly hope to return here next year.

Very comfortable, good cleaning and large rooms. Ideally located in a quiet and calm location, only 15 minutes walking distance to the center. They have a very professional team always ready to help you with any request, a special mention to his excellent General Manager. You will have a great time in Rome.

Quite confused about this place. Good location, very friendly and helpful staff, large rooms, good cleaning, very well-equipped kitchenettes, good air conditioning. Unfortunately if you take the whole picture it all looks very old and dusty. How can you put a 20" inches monitor as a tv in a superior room? Breakfast offer good but quality quite poor. Good for a weekend.

Stylish and quiet but some practical issues

Old school Ancien regime. Polite, restful, stylish old building away from the Rome hubub. Tall ceilings. Large-roomed comfortable studio apartment. Excellent breakfast and breakfast room. But not perfect. The large inner secondary glazing windows were warped and could not be fastened tight, letting in some street noise. The kitchenette boasted a 4 plate oven but only two small pans were provided and no frying pans or ovenproof dishes. The two provided large coffee cups were of unequal size. Most bizarrely, the kitchen sink could not be sealed and there was no washing up bowl. We were informed that this is normal and Italians do not soak dishes but wash the dishes using running water under the tap!!! What do you do with washing up liquid, pray tell. Well, that was most certainly NOT the case in the apartment in Sorrento we had just vacated, nor in Tuscany or the Gressoney valley a couple of years back. Sounds like a load of tosh. More practically for the tourist, its right by the Villa Borghese park and the no 3 and 19 (good for the Vatican) trams go by the door (change at Polinclinico for the metro to Termini station and e.g. the Colisseum) . But its a good 15 minute walk to Flaminio metro and places like the Trevi fountain or the Pantheon are very awkward by public transport. Go in with your eyes open.

A peaceful and well located haven, right near the centre of Rome

We stayed at the Aldrovandi in August with our family of 4. The 2-room suite was very well equipped with a small separate kitchen, a good-sized bathroom, and plenty of wardrobe space for the 3 ladies in our group! The blackout blinds and super comfy beds made for a wonderful & cool night's sleep thanks to the air conditioning. Ideally located in a quiet and calm location we felt totally cossetted from the hustle and bustle of Rome centre and yet were only a 15 min walk across the park to the Spanish Steps. The pool area was a real surprise too. Comfy loungers, a bar for drinks and an incredibly deep pool. And finally, the staff and general manager. They couldn't do enough to help us, recommending places to go and restaurants that the Romans frequent. They really helped us get a true sense of Rome, like the locals.
